Hi readers,
Someone whom I respect the most asked me this question what is more important career or independence?
My answer to this question is independence is more important but career is a way for us to reach out to independence.
Now people will think how?yeah! Its like a black and white colours of a chess board. But it’s the truth independence and career are so interrelated to each other that we can’t even find the difference between apart from the individual words.
Independence is something which gives us liberty to take our own decisions and live our own. Where as career is reaching to a specific goals and through which the by product we gain is fame, popularity, money and sometimes independence as well.
But the only difference is career necessarily doesn’t gives liberty to take our life’s own decisions.
For example, if a person is a farmer and taking his life’s decision he’s independent, like people working in private companies they have to plan their decisions according to the company’s policies, hence they have a good career but not independence.
However, it gives way to independence, once we have started earing or we are financially strong we are not dependent on another. Though everything goes hand in hand. Still it has a slight difference.
Now I will ask my readers what’s important for them career or independence for them?

Well explained the co-relationship as well as the differences in career and independence, I think independence comes with ones own ability as well as the manner of his work,like whether he works on his own firm,or is a partner in shares,or works under someone. But actual independence comes from one’s success and ability to utilise one’s resources well. Good writeup,loved the way you presented it!

Quite a tricky question. It has always been independence for me and instances where I successfully left job since I wasn’t getting the leeway. In several cases, I like to be in control. Such decisions weighed heavily on me and led to the struggle for years.

For me independence is definitely more important.

Hi, I feel independence is in the individuality of a person. One may work under rules but by personality still has capacity to demonstrate their independence, also, out of working hours the independence of a person can be stifled by peer pressure, societal norms and certain beliefs. Ultimately though, I believe the independence of individuals is what gives the world colour, and people are better if they can demonstrate independence, even under adversity.

I think independence is most important.. when you are independent you will choose the right career options. What we see now a days is other way, people are dependent on so many things and so many strings attached so they make the compromised career decisions.
Also just because someone works for other company doesn’t mean that he has lost his independence. If you know how to be independent you are independent in any field you choose. We all have seen even a highly disciplined military officials at times taking independent decisions successfully. So for me independence is much more valuable thing to peruse. Rest all will fit in.

I love independence more than career, but without career I suppose independence will be too boring and out and difficult to be.

Career is a way of a productive life and independence is a way of thought. One can have career yet not be independent and one can be independent without having a career. Independence is of many forms. Financial independence is just a part of it.

I think the needs can be changed every stage of our lives, perhaps when younger, people can be more careerist, once reaches the objectives or goals, they prefer to find their independences. It depends on different personalities and ages…

Interesting thoughts. Sometimes people fear settling into a career because they may loose their freedom and independence, but without a means to make a living, we may end up in poverty, with choices taken away from us, loosing our freedom and independence in the process.

I agree with your answer. Lots of times when many people are successful with their careers it leads them to independence; either financially or just the ability to make your own schedule.
